Top 9 Anime With Insanely Overpowered Characters

If you like anime, chances are you’ve seen characters that are just too overpowered. The one that everyone knows is probably Goku, who just keeps getting stronger with each arc. He’s stronger than the God of Destruction (probably), which is insane. Anyway, these OP (short for overpowered) characters can either make or brake for a lot of anime fans. Some of us love the unstoppable nature while others think it’s “too safe” and boring. Both opinions have the right to exist but I’m personally in the first camp. Nothing beats the rush of adrenaline you get when the OP hero just obliterates everything and everyone in their vicinity.

Anyway, you’re about to meet characters who can destroy planets with a single punch, get god-like powers out of (seemingly) nowhere, and defeat their enemies without breaking a sweat. Here are the top 9 anime with insanely overpowered characters.

1. Guts – Berserk

Look at that sword. It’s huge! And guess what, Guts has been swinging it since he was six, which in the end made him devilishly strong. If Guts can slash an armored dude in half, you better believe he can cut a demon into thin slices! Later in the manga he gets even more powerful upgrades like his demon armor, making him an unstoppable killing machine.

2. Orochimaru – Naruto Shippuden

Orochimaru is one of the main villains in Naruto. What makes him so dangerous and OP, you’ll ask? He’s potentially immortal and can use the forbidden ninjutsu that can resurrect others. I can’t even remember how many times he was “defeated”, but after each death he came back from the dead like it’s an ordinary Tuesday.

3. Rimuru Tempest – That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime

There was this otaku in Tokyo, who was hit by a car and died… or at least he thought he did. Instead, his essence was transferred to a different world where he became a slime (slimes are generally the weakest monsters in games and anime). Soon after the “rebirth”, Rimu realized what happened and that this new world looks a lot like a computer game, and that he’s got a skill called “Devour”, letting him keep any special powers of the enemies he’s eaten. We’re talking flying, spitting acid, growing armor, etc. He may just be the most OP out of all the characters here.

4. Alucard – Van Helsing

He’s an ancient vampire, but not the regular kind. He was stabbed in the heart, decapitated, set on fire, shot at, and probably experienced even worse injuries, but he just won’t die. What’s his secret? Millions of victims he’d killed. Yup, just that.

5. Kaido – One Piece

If you’re not up to date with One Piece manga, please skip this one. Who is Kaido? He’s seemingly immortal demon-like Sea Emperor with powers beyond our understanding. Like Alucard, thousands of people have tried to take his head. Swords, guns, explosives – nothing worked. One time he literally jumped off a Sky Island just to see if that could kill him. Spoiler alert – it didn’t. Also in the recent chapters of manga it’s been revealed that he also has the power to transform into a gigantic Chinese dragon. How do you trump that?

6. Goku – Dragon Ball

One of the most popular OP characters ever – Goku! He can fly, use energy projectiles, teleport across the universe, and most importantly, every time he gets defeated his power skyrockets. He even died a few times but always found a way to come back. These days he’s been training with actual Gods of his universe! This is just ridiculous.

7. Kenshiro – Fist Of The North Star

Do you know the meme “You’re already dead”? Yeah, it’s from the Fist of the North Star. Kenshiro is one of the first OP protagonists. His kung-fu is the strongest, hands down, and if you have a problem with that – go say it to his face. This Mad-Max-looking dude is pretty much invincible in his own world thanks to mastering the Hokuto Shinken martial art style, making his enemies’ heads explode. One hit and you’re done for.

8. Mob – Mob Psycho 100

In a nutshell, Mob is an awkward schoolboy with unrivaled psychic potential. The 100 refers to him reaching the critical mass, at which point he turns into an unbeatable psychic deity. This one’s not worth talking about, you should see it with your own eyes!

9. Saitama – One Punch Man

And finally we have the King – Saitama! One day he started his training routine: 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10 km run every day. A few years later, he went completely bald but gained incredible power. He’s become the strongest being in the universe (at least so far) and can decimate any enemy with a single punch. Hence the name “One Punch Man”. Giant bugs, horrifying monsters, alien overlords, robots… nothing can survive a Serious Punch from Saitama.
