11 TV Characters Who Dated People Out of Their League

They say love is blind, but looking at some of the couples on TV, I’m starting to think it’s also deaf and mute. Granted, we all love the drama that comes with a good old-fashioned love story, I just don’t know how in the world these particular couples would ever fall for each other. In the real world, things are different, but on TV is seems that anyone has a shot with anyone, so here are 11 TV characters who dated people way out of their league.

1. Leonard and Penny, The Big Bang Theory

From the very beginning this unholy union was meant to be. The second Penny moved in to the apartment across Leonard, I said “boy, those two are gonna get married”. But as it usually goes, it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. And even though I don’t like what the show has become, Penny and Leonard’s journey is one of the best things about it.

2. Jay and Gloria, Modern Family

Gee, where do I start here… Do I even need to say anything? Take Gloria… and then there’s Jay. Just, how? I’d get it if she was after his money, but she clearly loves him. Call agents Mulder and Scully, something’s not right here!

3. Ross and Rachel, Friends

On one side, we have Rachel, or, in reality, young Jennifer Aniston – it doesn’t get any better than that! Ross, on the other hand, well… He’s Ross. They have absolutely nothing in common, nor do they complement each other. At least they took breaks while dating. Yes, they were on a freaking break!

4. Cersei and King Robert, Game of Thrones

Ah, finally a relationship I can understand! The only real reason a hottie like Cersei would marry a smelly old dude like Robert, is because she’s in it for the gold and power! I mean, this one’s a no-brainer, so let’s move on.

5. Xander and Cordelia, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Here’s a deep cut for all you Buffy fans! Well, not so deep if you’re a 90’s kid, but nevertheless. Xander is a total geek, and Cordelia is a freaking Diva and a top-tier cheerleader. If it wasn’t for the weekly monster hunting events, these two would have zero things in common.

6. Elaine and Puddy, Seinfeld

Elaine Benes is not your typical bombshell. It takes some time to get used to her hair, but after a while you start realizing she’s kinda cute. Throughout the show she was on dozens of dates, and one of them was this idiot auto mechanic David Puddy. Then she dumps him for painting his face red. And then they’re back together, she dumps him again… Anyway, NEXT!

7. Nancy and Jonathan, Stranger Things

An introverted, antisocial weirdo, and a lovely, outgoing angel… Those two don’t usually mix, unless it’s a TV show. While Stranger Things is an amazing piece of television, the showrunners couldn’t escape all the cliches, one of them being the “unlikely couple”.

8. Peter and Lois, Family Guy

I have a theory on this one. The reason Lois is still with that brain-dead husband of hers is because… she lost a bet! I mean it’s either that or Peter rubbed a magic lamp, made a wish, and now here we are. Just like that time when Lois and kids went to Paris during World War II… Oh right, we hate Family Guy cutaways!

9. Charlotte York and Harry Goldenblatt, Sex and The City

This definitely wasn’t love at first sight. Charlotte actually chose Harry as her divorce lawyer cause he was less attractive and therefore less intimidating. But Harry was so smart, witty and charming that Charlotte was slowly falling in love with him.

10. Chuck and Sarah, Chuck

This is the most classic case of “unlikely couples”, IMO. In real life both Yvonne and Zachary are 10/10’s but in “Chuck” Zachary is the nerdiest nerd who’s ever walked the Earth, while Sarah is a badass, gun-toting spy! Opposites do attract, and I’m really okay with that (for this show, at least).

11. Alan and Kandi, Two and a Half Men

This one is easy, Kandi might be sweet and pretty but she’s also dimwitted and she likes that Alan pays all her bills.
