It feels like it hasn’t been that long since the day when William and Kate were showing off their cute kids to the world for the first time. And look at those rugrats now: Prince George is officially a teenager, Princess Charlotte is 11, and Prince Louis is already 8.
On August 1, the Wales children were seen with their royal parents at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. This was the first time that all three kids had been seen together in public. So it was kind of a big deal for them.
William and Kate shared an Instagram post with a family photo from the event, praising the incredible atmosphere, the world-class athletes, and the way sports can bring all kinds of people from different backgrounds together.
Prince George Is Now a Teenager
The 2026 Commonwealth Games were Prince George’s first public appearance since his birthday on July 22, when he turned 13. The young man looked dapper, dressed in a Ralph Lauren button-down shirt, and appeared increasingly comfortable accompanying his parents and siblings.
It’s just a matter of time before George gets taller than his ma and pa, as even now, he’s almost reached his mother’s height. But more than anything, people were surprised and excited to see his expressions and reserved manner.
When the pics of George chatting with his younger brother started appearing on the internet, some royal fans thought he looked just like Prince William, while others noted similarities to his late grandmother, Princess Diana.
Charlotte Continues to Take After Kate
Princess Charlotte also got plenty of attention during the event. Even at 11, she looks so much like her mother, particularly when it comes to her expressions and long hair.
Charlotte is not new to attending public sporting events. Back in 2022, she accompanied William and Kate to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham for her first solo royal outing with her parents. Then 7, after watching field hockey, swimming, and gymnastics, the little princess revealed that gymnastics was her favorite sport.
More recently, Charlotte and George joined their parents at Wimbledon. Sadly, Louis missed that particular event, but at least he was right in the middle of the action in Glasgow, where people watched his adorably animated reactions.
More Than Just a Family Outing
The visit was not only about showing their faces and sitting in the stands. William and Kate also spent time with Team Wales athletes and their families. The couple also visited SportsAid, an organization that supports young athletes and has had Kate as its patron since 2013.
The Commonwealth Games are a huge event that takes place every four years and brings athletes and para-athletes together from across the Commonwealth. The 2026 competition looked slightly different from previous editions because the event was moved from Victoria, Australia, to Glasgow. As a result, organizers staged a more compact version of the event with only 10 sports, including swimming, boxing, artistic gymnastics, and more.
King Charles also played a role in opening the event, arriving onstage from a 1960s-style police box inspired by the TARDIS from Doctor Who. It was certainly a more playful entrance than royal watchers are used to.
The royal couple generally keeps their children far from the spotlight in an attempt to give them a sense of normalcy, especially during the summer holidays. But that is why their Glasgow appearance feels particularly special.
It was not a formal balcony moment or a carefully staged ceremony. Instead, it looked like a regular family spending the day together, watching sports, and cheering for the athletes.
