20 Years Later: Actors From The Matrix And Where Are They Now

Fans of the iconic franchise are patiently waiting for the new Matrix movie from director Lana Wachowski, which should be released in December 2021. Disregarding the events of the last two movies, our favorite heroes will gather once again to confront the Robo-squids, probably some agent Smiths, and whatever else the Matrix has to offer to save the world and everyone in it.

Warner Bros. recently showed us a fresh trailer where we saw Neo and Trinity 20 years after the first movie was released. Apparently, they’ve been doing their thing inside the system for two decades. Unfortunately, The Matrix Resurrection will not feature Laurence Fishburne, who played Morpheus. He was replaced by actor Yahya Abdul-Matin II, but he’ll do just fine from the looks of it.

Amazing, mind-boggling concept, unique approach to filming, deep philosophical themes, unbelievable special effects, and of course, the iconic actors helped the first Matrix movie stand out among other sci-fi flicks of its time. Speaking of actors, you won’t believe how much they’ve changed over the years.

1. Keanu Reeves – Neo

Neo is easily one of the greatest protagonists in the history of cinema. The never-aging actor Keanu Reeves, who by the way is 56, continues to conquer Hollywood one movie after another, even dipping into the gaming industry. Yeah, did you know he was the poster boy for the game Cyberpunk 2077? This handsome devil will live forever, and we’re all for it.

2. Carrie-Anne Moss – Trinity

53-year-old Carrie-Anne Moss, who played Trinity, continued her career but didn’t quite hit that sweet spot as Keanu did. Moss has starred in many movies and TV shows throughout the years, but her most memorable roles were in Pompeii, Jessica Jones, and Daredevil.

3. Laurence Fishburne – Morpheus

After the Matrix, Laurence Fishburne, who played Morpheus, has also starred in some amazing movies. You’ve probably seen him in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Passengers, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Drug Courier, and others. For a 59-year-old actor, he’s doing swimmingly.

4. Hugo Weaving – Agent Smith

It’s amazing to see how a good actor moves from one iconic IP to another. For example, Agent Smith has been seen in all parts of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, V for Vendetta, Captain America, and the most underrated hit – Cloud Atlas.

5. Joe Pantoliano – Cypher

Joe Pantoliano, whose acting career began in the 80s, is not as famous as the other actors on the list. But in 1999, he was offered a role in a weird-looking movie called the Matrix, where he played the traitorous scumbag. After that, he was on the Sopranos, Sense8, Bad Boys for Life, and other great projects.

6. Marcus Chong – Tank

After tragically dying on-screen, Marcus Chong embraced his newly-found fame and became a TV actor. Law and order, Black Mark, Numbers – this is where his talent was fully revealed.

7. Belinda McClory – Switch

Belinda McClory’s movie career pretty much ended there and there, after she was done with Switch. But the actress kept starring in quite a few TV series, including the Corridors of Power and Dr. Blake Mysteries.

8. Anthony Ray Parker – Doser

Anthony Ray Parker is now 62 years old, but in 1999, he was in his prime when he played Dozer. Perhaps this explains the sheer amount of projects he starred in after the release of the Matrix. Although the roles were small, and the movies didn’t win any big awards, Anthony has definitely received his fair share of fame.

9. Julian Arahanga – Apoc

In the movie, Apoc was another member of Morpheus’s crew, and quite frankly, he was very forgettable. After the film’s success, the Australian actor appeared in several projects, but eventually found himself as a director and producer rather than an actor.
