It’s been many years since we saw Alana Thompson, aka Honey Boo Boo, in the spotlight. In case you wiped the story from your memory, there was this woman called Mama June, who became quite popular thanks to Alana, one of her four daughters, known to the whole world as Honey Boo Boo.
In 2010, the American television channel TLC launched the TV show “Toddlers and Tiaras” about participants in children’s beauty pageants. One day a 6-year-old baby girl and her 32-year-old mother appeared on the show and somehow stole the audience’s hearts. Young Alana did not seem to fit into the beauty queen’s standards, which did not bother her mom, who kept actively promoting her daughter in different pageants. Honey Boo Boo’s charisma was unmatched among the contestants, especially when she had those contagious laughing fits. The showrunners were not even mad about the fact that Mama June constantly treated Alana with cocktails of soda and energy drinks, even going as far as saying she’d add alcohol if it would help Alana perform better. Mother of the year, right there.
Mama June clearly came to the “Toddlers and Tiaras” to get some easy money, and she succeeded. When the world saw Honey Boo Boo in that cute dress, all covered in makeup, the ratings of the show skyrocketed. The viewers loved watching the chubster and her eccentric mother so much that the TV channel launched a reality show about their life. Soon after, their house was riddled with cameras, and for two whole years, every step they took was planned by the scriptwriters. The show was canceled in 2014 when June’s new boyfriend was accused of sexually harassing Alana’s older sister.
Sometime after the cancellation, Mama June took Alana to a couple of live music events, which must have inspired the little kid so much so that she starter spitting rhymes herself. You heard that right — Honey Boo Boo became a rapper. But it wasn’t a long career. She managed to record one rap single titled “Movin’ Up” in 2015, and that was about it. I
Did you know that Alana became an aunt three times by now? The first and second times were when Chickadee’s daughters, Kaitlyn Elizabeth and Kylee Madison, were born in 2013 and 2015, and then more recently, in 2017, when her 17-year-old sister Pumpkin gave birth to Ella Grace. Alana is excited to spend time with all of her nieces, even posting pics on Instagram with them hanging out. Honey Boo Boo and her mom made a comeback on TV in 2017 when June launched her own weight-loss reality show. She underwent surgery and lost 135 kilos. Alana tried to lose weight as well, but she quickly realized that she was quite happy in her body. But in 2018, Mama June reported that Alana was following a “no-grease diet.” But from the pictures and comments, it’s quite clear that Alana’s motivation didn’t last long.
The 15-year-old starlet mostly enjoys her steady life, has a few crushes, and occasionally visits talk shows, but does not seem to be chasing fame anymore, unlike her mother, who is trying with all her might to stay relevant. Who knows, maybe in a few years, Alana will make a big comeback!
