Top 8 Most Blood-Chilling Movie Monsters of All Time

I’ve basically been raised on monster movies like Godzilla and, technically, Power Rangers. There’s something extremely fascinating about watching a badass-looking Monster destroying cities and/or other monsters… And recently we had Pacific Rim and a NEW Godzilla, but monsters in movies come in all shapes and sizes, and today I’ll show you my private stash of top-notch creature features!

These are the top 8 most blood-chilling movie monsters of all time!

1. Audrey II, “Little Shop of Horrors”
I don’t know about you, but this movie used to creep me out a lot when I were a kid. Probably because it’s not a kids movie, yeah. Audrey is just your regular old plant monstrosity, with an affinity for spontaneous singing and eating unsuspecting humans. For some reason, I don’t remember the plot of the movie at all, just my skin crawling when I heard “Feed me, Seymour!” and saw those razor sharp teeth!

2. Cloverfield Monster, “Cloverfield”
The unknown is way more terrifying than something you can see or touch. So far we’ve had 3 movies in the Cloverfield universe, and most of the time the monsters weren’t seen for like 90% of the movie duration. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? That’s up to you to decide. Those 10% of on-screen time does make the creatures a bit less menacing and horror-inducing, especially when you see puny humans fight them, but the movies work great overall!

3. The Behemoth, “The Mist”
Speaking of something you can’t see, we have the monsters from The Mist. The movie is great, the premise is okay, the plot is… well, there’s something that looks like a plot, but the creatures, oh man, the creatures still give me the hebe-jeebies to this day! The giant bugs, the tentacles with teeth, and of course the final boss – the Behemoth! We only saw it for a few seconds but I’d be lying if I told you that this Lovecraftian beast did not look horrifying. We’re but some ants for this dude…

4. Otachi, “Pacific Rim”
This entry could’ve easily been titled “Guillermo del Toro’s sick imagination” and contain everything from Tooth Fairies (Hellboy 2) to all the fantastical Kaiju (Pacific Rim). But I can’t do that, so I’m choosing the Kaiju. If you’ve seen the movie, you know there are a lot of scary-ass gigantic monsters, and one of them is the Otachi. I actually didn’t know they had names, so I called this one the “the flying death”. Judging from the new Pacific Rim 2 trailers, the monsters get bigger and badder. Damn, that CG looks so realistic!

5. The Babadook, “The Babadook”
I remember watching this movie thinking “pshhh, it’s probably just another lame jump-scare-filled horror movie, should go okay with some beer and snacks”. Boy, was I wrong… Truth is, I was scared to go to reach for the freaking food! Now it’s become one of my favorite horror movies, all the way up there with the Thing and Alien. Not even going to tell you what it’s about. It’s too good to be spoiled like that.

6. Xenomorph, “Alien”
What is there to say about one of the most terrifying creatures ever shown in the movies? Xenomorphs are relentless hunters, perfect predators, and they have acid for blood. Sadly, the recent Alien movies were a big disappointment, but whatever, at least we’ll always have the oldies!

7. The Thing, “The Thing”
Much like the Xenomorph, the Thing has already reached the legendary status, with its ability to shape-shift into your worst nightmare times infinity! The practical effects really help make this bad boy as horrifying as possible, and Carpenter’s “The Thing” was one of my most dreaded movies to watch when I was a teen. And There’s something really unsettling about it… Could’ve been the iconic “spider-head”, now that I think of it.

8. Godzilla, “Godzilla”
And, my final monster for today, appropriately called the King of Monsters – Godzilla. I honestly don’t know if there’s someone out there who’s never heard or seen this Kaiju. The early movies were a joke, but with each iteration Godzilla became more and more dangerous, to the point where it basically wiped out all of the humanity and “cleansed” the Earth and ruled it for 20,000 years, until the remaining humans that escaped on a spaceship, came back to reclaim the planet. That’s basically the latest Godzilla animated Netflix movie in a nutshell, so go watch it, it’s really freaking good! Also, as long as we’re talking recommendations, check out “Shin Godzilla” while you’re at it!
