In the 1990s, former supermodel Yasmeen Ghauri dominated the runways. Her Pakistani and German roots gave her an unforgettable look, and she made modeling history when she pushed back against Eurocentric standards for women in the modeling world at the time, bringing much-needed representation to the scene.

But despite all her accomplishments, this striking Canadian-born supermodel still doesn’t get the recognition she deserves. Part of that is likely due to the fact that she stepped away from her modeling career in 1997 to live a life out of the spotlight, enjoying life as a regular wife and mother. She’s been a bit of a mystery since, and as a result, many people are wondering what Yasmeen Ghauri is up to today, many years after her heyday, when she took the runway by storm.

The mother of two has aged gracefully and still keeps up with her famous friends. In 2022, she shared an Instagram post that showed her spending time with an old friend and former Victoria’s Secret model Helena Christensen. In the caption, she wrote, “Just saw this gorgeous creature after 25 years and we picked up right where we left off! Love you, Helena! I’ve missed your mischievous ways!”

In the snapshot where she’s spending time with her friend, Ghauri looked as radiant as ever, rocking black cat-eye glasses and a frilly white top. Despite being 52 at the time, she looked decades younger, with smooth, glowing skin, with the only changes being a couple of wrinkles around her eyes and her famous dark hair tinged with some streaks of gray.

During her career, she had a strong down-to-earth vibe

When working in the modeling industry, it can be easy to get caught up in a bad scene, fall prey to addiction, or let things go to your head. But despite working from the late 1980s to 1997, Yasmeen Ghauri always stayed true to who she was, remaining grounded and humble throughout her entire journey.

In 1991, she said, “I’m not an actress. I was always really shy, and it was very hard for me to get into this business because you can’t be shy in this business. But it worked out well.” In a documentary on E!, she mentioned that she “hated the word supermodel” and liked to stay incognito in public when possible, without people recognizing her.

Her personality and down-to-earth mentality impressed everyone she worked with on the business side of things, with her agent Giovanni Bernardi saying in the documentary, “She has the most perfect body. And she’s aware of it, but she doesn’t take advantage of it. She doesn’t use it in the manner that other people would.” Faith Kates, who was the president of NEXT Models at the time, also participated in the documentary, stating that Ghauri’s personality contributed to her worldly beauty, making her an exceptional human being inside and out.
