In many countries, carpets are placed on the walls instead of the floor, as they are considered very fashionable and stylish. But in the civilized world, the retro style is slowly dying out, and carpets are being treated as decorative floor rugs. Unusual carpets under your feet can completely change the room, making it more colorful, increasing the space, or vice versa, making it smaller. It all depends on the carpet’s shape, color, and design in general.

1. Selva Aparicio’s carved wooden rug
You heard that right. It’s not an actual carpet. Instead, the designer, Selva Aparicio, has created intricate carvings that look like a real rug. This art piece supposedly symbolizes “covering and exposing, trauma and bearing witness,” and possibly, childhood trauma. I can’t even imagine the amount of skill and dedication necessary for this beautiful artwork to come to life.
2. Jason Seife’s acrylic carpets
Watching Jason Seife work on his next masterpiece, you might think: “Why is this guy using a brush on the carpet?” It turns out that he paints the “carpets” with acrylics and ink, carefully drawing intricate Persian designs. His amazing paintings-slash-carpets can be used to decorate any interior!
3. Amazing Tejo Remy rug
Anyone could make a fun rug like this one if they tried. After all, it’s made from recycled pieces of blankets, which Tejo Remy prepared. Even though it looks weird at first, it is simply impossible not to fall in love with this marvelous rug. It would surely surprise your guests with its unusual shape and beautiful combination of colors.

Here’s a unique Persian rug created from puzzle pieces made of recycled rubber. And here’s the coolest part: this rug is modular, which means you can arrange its parts the way you want and create a different combination every time!
5. Carpet with built-in slippers
When you have guests, they definitely need to put on slippers to cover their dirty feet, right? So wouldn’t it be great if the slippers were the same color as your carpet and also be a part of it? Alexandra Kehayoglou is an astonishingly talented artist from Buenos Aires. She makes unique carpets that everyone wants to take home and hang on the wall, especially since some of them are designed specifically for that. Using leftovers from the family’s factory, the young designer makes garden rugs that start on the floor and continue on the wall. She combines natural carpets with tapestries, getting the perfect creative blend.
7. Faig Ahmed’s glitched-out carpets
These extraordinary carpets are created by the Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed. They are awesome traditional carpets with digital glitches commonly found in the computer world. Some of his rugs look like partially-loaded pictures, and others seem as if they have been photoshopped by a novice. All of them are quite spectacular to look at, though!
