Since you’re reading this article, chances are you want to learn more about some of the DC characters jam-packed into Suicide Squad movie, which drops in August, so you still have a solid few months to read up on all these guys! Before we continue, I gotta be honest, I’m not the biggest Suicide Squad comic book fan out there, I prefer Marvel’s Thunderbolts, but some of the SS characters are genuinely fascinating and should get more attention from the public.
The second trailer just hit today and it might be the best movie trailer I’ve seen in years. Bohemian Rhapsody definitely kicked it up a notch!
Anyhoo, let’s start off with Deadshot…
This will actually be the second time Deadshot gets a live-action version. You might have seen this character in Arrow (yes, the one with the weird eye) season 2-3, IIRC.
Will Smith’s Floyd Lawton, aka Deadshot, will not be outright evil villain, but an anti-hero instead. The character first appeared in a Batman comic 65 years ago as the world’s deadliest marksman. He’s basically like Marvel’s Bullseye but less crazy and more charismatic. His skills of course include “never missing a shot”, advanced hand-to-hand combat skills, and being a master tactician. Which is why he’s oftentimes the team leader.
Harley Quinn
Fun fact: before coming to the comics and video games, Harley Quinn was a cartoon character from “Batman: The Animated Series”. She fell in love with her patient and went full psycho to bust him out from the mental asylum. Yes, the love of her life was Mr. J, Puddin’, the Clown Prince of Crime himself – the Joker, who is also in the movie as the main baddie. Now you see how this movie rolls, right?
Margot Robbie’s Harley has no special abilities except for being incredibly smart and hella hot… I meant athletic.
Captain Boomerang
Just like Deadshot, this ain’t Cap Boomerang’s first rodeo, or whatever they call it in Oz. You might have seen him and his ridiculous weapon of choice (the BOOMerangs) in one of the Flarrow crossovers. He’s usually chasing the Flash, so you know he ain’t fooling around. Captain Boomerang has access to a wide array of different boomerang-shaped weapons with explosive charges, razor blades, stunning thingies and more. He’s what Batman would have become if he was born in Australia.
Enchantress
This may be a bit spoilery, so continue reading if you don’t care. Otherwise, skip to Rick Flag!
And here you are. After the new trailer it became rather obvious that Joker is not the only bad guy and there’s someone else… someone with either alien or magical abilities. And my bet is on Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress, since she’s got all of the mystical powers. Wikipedia says she has unlimited magical powers and the ability to directly affect inanimate objects. If that doesn’t sound like “trouble” I don’t know what does.
Rick Flagg
This would be your token commando guy. He’ll shoot things, blow people up, and do everything Amanda Waller tells him to do, because orders are orders. After most of his own squad got wiped out on one of these suicide missions he just doesn’t seem to care if he lives or dies. Or does he?
Killer Croc
Usually KC wants to chomp on some Batman meat, but looks like this time he’ll need to take care of the Joker first. Massive jaws with hundreds of razor-sharp teeth, inhuman strength, lightning-fast reflexes and incredible regenerative powers – you definitely don’t want to stand between him and his prey.
Slipknot
Definitely one of the silliest DC villains. His powers are – sticky ropes. Yup. In a team full of terrifying human-crocodile hybrids, all-powerful witches and universal soldiers, there’s this guy and his knots. I’m betting $5 he’ll be the first to die!
Katana
Yes, it is the same character you’ve seen in Arrow. But this version of Katana has the actual magical samurai sword (a katana) that devours the souls of the people she slays, and stores that power inside the blade. I still don’t know what she‘s doing in the Suicide Squad.
El Diablo
Arguably the hottest member of the Skwad is El Diablo, because, if you hadn’t noticed, this guy can manipulate fire. He’s a freaking firebender! He will *probably* die as well, though, but I hope I’m wrong. We need more pyrokinetics!
Joker
As I’ve previously mentioned, Mr.J himself will play the big bad in Suicide Squad and if you don’t know who the Joker is, well, he’s a psychotic maniac, who doesn’t give a hoot about anything or anyone but himself. He is Batman’s arch-nemesis and that title is nothing to shake a stick at. Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime promises to be “different” than all previous incarnations, but I know for sure he’s gonna be batsh@t crazy!
