It’s no secret that the script can sometimes be very demanding for actors. Sometimes, your job might actually require you to do the one thing you hate. I mean, for regular people, your job will usually be the thing you hate, but I digress. Let’s take a look at some actors that suffered greatly for little to no added value to our enjoyment as a spectator.
Kit Harington
Kit hates the idea of being buried alive. This is of course contrary to most people, who adore the concept. You can imagine Kit wasn’t too happy when he had to be buried underneath a pile of corpses for a scene in Game of Thrones.
Rooney Mara
For her part in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney actually got her ears, eyebrow and lips pierced.
Nick Frost
In Hot Fuzz, he had to wear a Bristol Rovers football jersey. Doesn’t sound too bad, does it? Well, it is pretty bad when you’re a die hard West Ham United fan. Team loyalty is a big thing in the UK. Unless your team is the EU, then you can ditch it pretty much whenever.
Shelley Duvall
During the filming of The Shining, director Stanley Kubrick tortured Shelley by having her do dozens and dozens of takes per scene. After filming had finished, with Shelley being completely drained of her energy, she gave him a few locks of her hair that fell out due to the stress she suffered while filming.
Leonardo DiCaprio
In The Wolf of Wall Street, Leo was forced to eat a piece of sushi for a whole bunch of takes of a specific scene. Well, Leo hates sushi. With a passion.
Linda Blair
When she threw up in The Exorcist, it was actually pea soup instead of regular vomit. The irony of the matter being that Linda hates peas and actually literally threw up because of the soup.
Tobey Maguire
Playing Spider-Man is all fun and games until you have to kiss Kirsten Dunst while hanging upside down with water running down your nose and your mask being pulled over your face, making it harder to breathe properly.
Leonardo DiCaprio (Again)
Not only does Leonardo DiCaprio not like sushi, he also doesn’t like meat. Despite being a vegetarian, he actually ate a raw bison liver in the infamous scene from The Revenant. I guess creating an authentic scene is more important than your principles regarding animal suffering.
