A new year, a new decade, a new opportunity for great movies to be made and seen. There’s quite a lot of franchises and movies being rebooted this year and a lot of sequels that we’ve been promised since last year. But there’s also just a lot of good standalone movies that are going to be released this year and it’s not a bad idea to plan ahead and choose which movies you’re going to see this year. Plus it’ll give you even more things to look forward to throughout the year. Here are movies that we think will blow your mind in 2020.
1.A Quiet Place 2
A Quiet Place was such an unexpected hit that there’s honestly no wonder they’re making a sequel. It’s not your regular horror movie, it has family values at its core and that’s what makes it so special. The movie ended on this interesting positive note that suggested there was a way to fight back against these monsters and it’ll be really interesting to see how that will change the world in the second movie.
2.Mulan
We’ve been waiting for this one for a while. It was initially scheduled for 2018 but it took Disney a while to find a perfect fit for Mulan. But they’ve done it now and we’re all excitedly awaiting the live-action version of our favourite childhood classic. They better not disappoint, because the original was so freaking good.
3.The New Mutants
The release date of this movie has been delayed so many times we’re kind of hesitant to believe it’ll actually come out this April, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed. It’s going to feature Maisie Williams, who we all know and love from Game of Thrones, and Charlie Heaton, from Stranger Things. So you know, it looks very promising.
4.Black Widow
It’s finally happening, we’re getting a Black Widow film. We’ve been hoping for this for years and it’s coming out this May. The movie plot is meant to take place somewhere between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War so it’s not exactly the full story of Black Widow, but it’s a start and we’re pretty happy with that.
5.Artemis Fowl
If you haven’t heard of Artemis Fowl – where have you been since 2001? It has been described as Die Hard with fairies and the new Harry Potter. That should be enough to get you interested. There are 8 novels that have been coming out between 2001 and 2012 and if you haven’t read them you have until the end of May to start. The movie is meant to be an adaptation of the first book and we’re pretty sure it’ll be great.
6.Wonder Woman 1984
Wonder Woman has made us all cry with joy and pride, it was such a massive success around the world and we’re pretty sure that’s because most of us went to see it multiple times with all of our friends. So basically we made this happen and we’re getting another movie. This one is meant to fill in the gaps in time between the first movie and Wonder Woman’s appearance in Man of Steel. All I can say is that there is no such thing as too much Wonder Woman or too much Gal Gadot, so bring it on.
7.Free Guy
Free Guy is going to be such a hilarious movie we can’t wait to see it. First of all – it’s Ryan Reynolds, so you already know what to expect. Secondly, the whole premise of the movie is that Guy realises that he’s a non-playable character in a violent video game. And thirdly we’re getting Taika Waititi and Jodie Comer in this movie too. I mean, just think about those three together. It will be incredible, get excited!
8.The French Dispatch
If you’re a fan of Wes Anderson you are already on the edge of your seat even though you know this doesn’t come out until mid-summer. The premiere date is set to July 24th and we all have countdown timers set. With a cast that includes Bill Murray, Timothee Chalamet, Frances McDormand, Elisabeth Moss, Saoirse Ronan, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Jeffrey Wright, and Benicio Del Toro, the distinct Wes Anderson visual style and his incredible and unique storytelling – this movie will probably be the best thing to come out this summer.
