If you’re old enough to have survived the 90s, then you probably remember Just Shoot Me!, Pretty Woman, and the general grungy fashion vibe, dial-up internet, and Bill Clinton playing sweet-sweet sax. It was a time of legendary TV shows and movie stars, with Laura San Giacomo being one of them. But fast forward to now, and she looks nothing like her old self.
So what happened to her? Where did she go after her big breakout roles? And why are people doing double-takes when they see her now?

The Other Pretty Woman
I’m sure everyone and their dads remember Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. But what about her fun, street-smart bestie, Kit De Luca? Laura San Giacomo portrayed Kit De Luca, stealing every scene she appeared in. The 1990 romcom classic launched her into stardom. While Roberts got the limo and the love story, San Giacomo got major Hollywood cred and the chance to make her next big move.
“Just Shoot Me!” Days
Among hundreds upon hundreds of 90s sitcoms, there were many that deserved more recognition. Just Shoot Me! was on TV for seven seasons and starred David Spade, George Segal, and today’s star, Laura San Giacomo, as Maya—a sharp journalist forced to work at her dad’s glossy fashion magazine. It was sort of a mix of The Devil Wears Prada and a whole metric ton of dad jokes. With this role, San Giacomo earned herself a Golden Globe nomination and reminded everyone she was way more than just “the best friend in Pretty Woman.”
Still Working, Just Not Always in the Spotlight
After the 90s, Laura did not simply disappear, but rather, she seamlessly blended into the background. Laura appeared in popular TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Veronica Mars, and NCIS, proving she still had the chops, even if they were one-offs. Recently, she’s been spotted taking a quick stroll outside—and fans were confused and awestruck. At 62, with platinum blonde hair, cargo pants, and unwavering confidence, the star looks like a completely different person, only a bit more fabulous than everyone could have imagined. Let’s put it this way: Laura grew up, got way cooler, and now probably listens to true crime podcasts while burying bod- err, “gardening,” yes, we meant to say gardening.

Where It All Began
Before Pretty Woman, there was Sex, Lies, and Videotape. That 1989 indie flick might sound like a late-night Cinemax special, but it was actually a pretty significant step for her career. Laura garnered accolades, received additional nominations, and essentially introduced herself to Hollywood as a formidable figure. That classic film positioned her for success in the major leagues, and she confidently embraced that momentum as she entered the 1990s.
Real Life Stuff
While her career was thriving, so was her personal life. She married actor Cameron Dye in 1990, and they had a son, Mason. After the couple split, the actress married Matt Adler in 2000, and they’ve lived happily ever since. Her son Mason, now in his late 20s, was born with cerebral palsy, and Laura has been incredibly open and active in advocating for awareness and support. She even joined Oprah in 2016 to talk about it and became the board secretary for Momentum Wheels, a nonprofit helping people with mobility challenges. You can tell she really cares and isn’t just playing the role.

So, Where’s She Been?
In short, Laura has been living her best quiet life. She has been raising her son, acting on rare occasions, and largely avoiding the spotlight in Hollywood. You know, living the dream. Today, Laura San Giacomo might not look like she did in 1990, but seriously, does anyone? If even A-listers like Jennifer Aniston are succumbing to the tides of time, what can someone like Laura do? Okay, maybe Paul Rudd and Keanu Reaves are two small exceptions to the rule. The bottom line is that Laura’s still around, looks fabulous, and is still making a difference. Although we haven’t seen her on our screens recently, we’re delighted to witness her living her life independently.
