It’s no secret that sequels, prequels, remakes, and spin-offs are appearing on the movie screens more frequently with each passing year. But have you ever considered how many of them are secretly in production? Let’s just say that Marvel alone has like 20 movies in the pipeline. As to the other, less important sequels, let’s see how they’re doing.
Here are 8 movie sequels you didn’t know were coming up.
1. “Bad Boys 4 Life”
Next year we’re getting Martin Lawrence and Will Smith to reprise their roles as badass cops from “Bad Boys 1/2”. The first two installments were pretty fun, but back then the buddy cop movies were a dime a dozen. Will they be able to make a unique action movie? We’ll see in 2020.
2. “Top Gun: Maverick”
Fighter Jets, drama, friendship, heartbreaks… “Top Gun” had it all. And the sequel is said to have Tom Cruise in it, so it’s automatically getting on my “maybe” list. Maverick will be the instructor this time around, but aside from that, the only thing we know is the release year – 2020.
3. “Avatar 2”
Cameron’s blue boys are back on the menu! What will it be about? Gee, I wonder. Probably about the Na’ vi and human Avatars waging war against either other humans or some other aliens. Can’t say I’m excited about this franchise but to each their own. Either way, we’ll know what’s up in 2021.
4. “Coming 2 America”
Eddie Murphy is back! Will he play the African King revisiting Queens? Maybe his son or daughter will be “Coming 2 America” this time? Who knows, but I’m confident it will be hilarious, just like the original. Just don’t expect it to drop any time soon.
5. “Bill & Ted Face the Music”
Slap on Keanu Reeves in every movie and people will watch it. More importantly, they will like it! Did you know that “Bill and Ted” are getting a sequel about writing a song that will save humankind from extinction? Yeah, that’s going to be an excellent summer flick!
6. “The Matrix 4”
All you need to know about this sequel is that A) Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Ann Moss, and Lana Wachowski are all in it, and B) Keanu described the script as “very ambitious – as it should be.” It’s going to be fantastic regardless of what the haters think.
7. “Space Jam 2”
Every 90’s kid remembers Buggs Bunny shooting hoops with Michael Jordan, Marvin the Martian, Duffy Duck, and the rest of the Loony Tunes. The movie did not age well, but back then, it was in every kid’s VHS collection. This time it’s LeBron James’s turn to play ball with the animated characters, and we’ll know more by 2021.
8. “Wonder Woman 1984”
We all loved Gal Gadot in the 2017 hit movie “Wonder Woman,” and we want more of that. Thankfully DC and Warner Bros. didn’t make us wait for too long, as the sequel should hit theaters in 2020. Aside from the title, that hints on the year in which the movie will take place, and the fact that Chris Pine was spotted during the filming, we know absolutely nothing. Will they be able to catch that lightning in a bottle again? Only time will tell.
