7 Best Slasher Movies Of All Time

In all horror genres, nothing has been quite as enigmatic as the slasher horror films. They were seemingly everywhere in the 80’s, only to disappear as quickly as they had surfaced. Let’s take a look at some of the best slasher horror movies of all time. What better time than now, with Halloween coming up?

Scream

While this movie released when people didn’t care about slasher movies anymore, it was one of the better ones. It had something previous slasher movies didn’t have: main characters that were more interesting than the bad guy. This is also why this is probably the only slasher series where the sequels didn’t absolutely suck.

Hellraiser

In terms of tearing/slashing people apart, I doubt many movies got more creative than the Hellraiser series. The first one is a classic that everyone should watch and they’re probably decent up until the third or fourth movie. There’s been almost a dozen though, so a lot of movies to avoid.

Friday the 13th

One of the best known slasher series, this movie starts off by telling the story of Jason Voorhees, who was bullied at camp so badly that his trauma led him to live with his mother and murder everyone that goes to camp. Makes sense, until he returns from the dead in the third movie and gets revived in space in the tenth.

Halloween

Michael Myers had the psychopath look nailed down completely with his pale white mask and large meat knife. Sadly, the third Halloween movie doesn’t even have Michael in it and somehow they still wanted to make a movie after that. The recent remakes have been pretty good though, even the Rob Zombie ones!

Nightmare on Elm Street

Everyone’s biggest nightmare was probably Freddy Krueger back in the 80s. Ironically, he was only able to kill you in your sleep, so all you had to do to survive his finger knives was stay awake! How hard can it be?

Child’s Play

If you like dolls and want to keep it that way, Child’s Play probably isn’t the movie to watch. A criminal uses his last energy to transfer his consciousness into a doll, and then continues on killing as a doll. The concept is completely whack, but the movie is loads of fun to watch. Also, there’s a remake of this coming up soon.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

And last but not least: ol’ Leatherface. Where everyone else used knives, machetes or torture devices from hell, Leatherface didn’t waste any time. As the title of the series suggests, he stuck to the tool he admired the most: his chainsaw. If you wonder if that’s good for killing – it is.
