The MCU has been around for over a decade but some of the OG heroes have not yet gotten a single solo movie. I’m looking at you, Black Widow and Hawkeye! The good news is, we were promised solo projects for both of them. Natasha is getting a movie and Clint a TV show on Disney+. Every Marvel fan out there has been clamoring for a Black Widow movie and we had our reasons, bet since it’s all official now, let’s ponder why the Black Widow movie will be fun to watch!
1. She’s A Legit Avenger Without Superpowers
So a super powered rookie Captain Marvel gets her solo film on her first day at the office but a 100% human veteran like Black Widow needs to wait for 12 years? It’s a travesty! Natasha can and does kick super villain butts in every Avengers movie. She’s a trained assassin, let’s not forget that. What she lacks in super powers, she makes up for in cool (and deadly) spy gadgets and martial arts, which makes watching her kick the villains all the more exciting.
2. What’s Up with Budapest?
Finally, after all these years of teasing us, we may finally see what the hell happened in Budapest. And from what we’ve seen in the leaked footage and concept art, this Hungarian adventure will involve Taskmaster as well as Yelena Belova. While you may have heard of the Taskmaster, who can copy the fighting style of his enemies, Yelena Belova is a bit deeper cut. In the comics she is also the Black Widow but unlike Natasha, she is 100% evil Hydra spy. Spy vs spy action is exactly what MCU needs right now.
3. Black Widow Will Come Back to the MCU
I know what you’re saying “but she died, and Dr. Strange said she can’t be revived by time traveling back and saving her”. Well, who needs time travel when you have multiverse full of Natasha’s doppelgangers! In case you missed it, the next Dr. Strange movie is subtitled as “Multiverse of Madness”, which makes me very excited. So the idea is that since there are infinite universes, there are those where Natasha Romanova sacrificed Clint to get the Souls Stone and is still alive. That version of her misses Hawkeye, our version is dead – I see a way to help both worlds!
4. Countless Black Widow Comic Book Stories
The first appearance of Black Widow was all the way back in Tales of Suspense #52 in 1964. Throughout the decades she’s been a member of SHIELD, the Avengers, Lady Liberators, Thunderbolts (which we are reportedly going to see in the MCU), and many other teams and organizations. Each of them with their own set of amazing stories that are yet to be seen on the big screen!
5. It’s Still Scarlett Johansson!
Whatever the movie will be about, we’ll get to see Scarlett in the MCU at least one more time. How will the 2020 Black Widow movie introduce the concept of the Eternals? Will it be in any way, shape or form connected to Phase 4? Will it just be a side story featuring the heroes we know and love? No idea, but one thing is certain – Natasha Romanova will be back and I can’t wait to see her!
