Nadya Suleman shared that one of her sons had just become a father to a healthy baby girl. The famous mom of eight made headlines in 2009 after having the only octuplets to survive throughout history.
Although she gave birth to eight children at once, she has a total of 14 kids. Before she had the octuplets 15 years ago, she was already a mom of six to her children Amerah, Calyssa, Elijah, Caleb, Joshua, and Aidan.
Suleman revealed the news on Instagram, sharing an adorable image of her baby granddaughter’s little foot partially snuggled under a pink blanket.
The mom of 14 didn’t reveal which of her children had the baby, simply captioning the photo, “Thank you my son and my lovely daughter-in-law for giving us this beautiful gift! We are so blessed that she is a new addition to our family!” She continued, “Baby girl you are so very loved and we can’t wait to watch you grow!! 8/30/24 🙏🏽❤️.” It’s assumed that the date is referring to her granddaughter’s date of birth.
In 2013, this star made the decision to step out of the spotlight, and while she stays away from the media, she often posts photos of her family on social media platforms like Instagram. For instance, she posted several childhood images of her son Joshua in honor of his 21st birthday, hinting in the caption that he was the one who recently became a dad.
The caption read, “I am so proud of the man you are becoming. You are smart, funny, hard working, loyal, humble, and now a devoted husband and soon-to-be-father.”
Previous to that post, Superman posted photos and video footage of her own birthday, which her family celebrated alongside her on July 11. The group serenaded her with “Happy Birthday” as she prepared to blow out a candle on her birthday cake. In the caption, she thanked her children for making her birthday a special day.
Another significant birthday the Octomom shared with the public was one on January 27th: her octuplets’ 15th birthday. In classic Suleman style, she posted a cute throwback with the little ones as they wore birthday hats and sat around a cake. In the text accompanying the image, she shared how proud she was of the “young adults” they were growing up to be.
Why Octomom gave up fame
When she gave birth to her octuplets, Suleman was unemployed. To support her family financially, she turned to several money-making ventures, including boxing, pornography, and nude modeling. She even tried to trademark the nickname “Octomom.”
In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Suleman admitted that she never wanted the fame that came with having her octuplets. She said she had “stopped wanting to do it from day one” saying that being in the spotlight violated not just her boundaries, but herself as a person and her “value system.”
At the time, she was trying to make a living and create a stable life for her children. She called it being in “survival mode” and said she would do whatever it took so that her kids could be happy, but one moment in her life caused her to rethink everything and led her to leave that fame behind.
In the same interview, she said that her oldest daughter, Ameerah, who was approximately ten years old at the time, began “integrating my traits and behaviors” and started trying to imitate her mother. She realized this was not the life she wanted for her family, stating, “I saw her going down that same potentially destructive path, and I realized at that moment I’d rather be homeless in my van with all 14 kids than continuing down this path.”
Today, Suleman prefers to lead a quieter life away from the cameras and the tabloids. It appears to be working well in her favor as her family continues to grow.
