Celebrities Who Have Distanced Themselves from Ivanka Trump

The Trump family is full of controversial individuals, and former A-lister Ivanka Trump is no exception. Despite being well-known in famous circles (especially within the fashion industry), many celebrities have cut ties with her after she became involved with her father, Donald’s political career. While some of the stars quietly distanced themselves, others weren’t afraid to make some noise about it.

Anna Wintour

Anna Wintour was once Ivanka’s biggest advocate, she always invited her to the Met Gala and even reached out once to offer her a position at Vogue (which Ivanka turned down). But in 2021, Ivanka and her husband weren’t invited to the Met Gala. In fact, no one from the Trump clan was. The fashion mogul would go on to speak publicly about her dislike for Donald Trump and even plead with Vogue readers to vote for someone else.

Karlie Kloss

These two used to be thick as thieves—Karlie is a sister-in-law to Ivanka via her marriage to Josh Kushner—and photographs of the two together weren’t uncommon. There were candid shots of them at the 2016 U.S. Open, and Ivanka shared a sweet comment on Instagram congratulating Karlie on her engagement to Josh and expressing excitement to be family.

However, Ivanka didn’t even stay for Karlie and Josh’s wedding weekend, only saying a quick hello at the beginning. When they both attended the Ambani pre-wedding, they went to great lengths to avoid being photographed with each other. Karlie has frequently spoken out against Donald Trump, calling out his supporters. When a social media user asked her to talk to her in-laws, she wrote, “I’ve tried.”

Chelsea Clinton

This daughter of a famous Democrat president was formerly a friend of Ivanka’s—that is, before the 2016 election. Interestingly enough, Chelsea told TODAY that distancing herself from her long-time friend wasn’t just based on Donald Trump attacking her mother, Hillary Clinton, during the election. In a 2020 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Chelsea said that she was frustrated that Ivanka had decided to get involved with her father’s presidency and what she called a “hateful” campaign, calling her ex-friend complicit.

Emmy Rossum

Ivanka hasn’t seen her old friend Emmy Rossum from “Shameless” since her father’s presidency. Though they were close in the early and mid-2000s (Rossum even rocked some of Ivanka’s jewelry line during a red carpet appearance, and Ivanka told Hampton magazine that Rossum was in her inner circle). In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that has since been deleted, Rossum admitted that she had received antisemitic messages from multiple Trump supporters after the election results were revealed. No wonder the friendship came to an abrupt halt!

Kicked out of the country club

After the January 6th debacle, both Ivanka and Jared were shunned from their country club. Other members of high society, besides celebrities, wanted to avoid being associated with the Trumps. A member of the Indian Creek community claimed that Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, probably won’t be getting into the local country club anytime soon.

The source clarified that nominations and formal applications are required, but if a single member objects to membership (as many did after the Capitol attack), they cannot join. It looks like the only community these two are welcome in is Mar-a-Lago!

There’s still hope for Ivanka to get back on the A-list

Although she’s become somewhat of a social pariah amongst celebrities and the rest of the upper echelon, she may quietly be re-entering the ranks of the A-listers and recovering her reputation. In October 2023, Ivanka was invited to Kim Kardashian’s birthday party and was even included in the Kardashian’s photo dump on Instagram. This may have to do with the fact that Ivanka has distanced herself from her family, though she did show support for her dad after the hush money verdict.

According to the New York Times, she also voluntarily offered to talk to the committee in charge of investigating the Capitol attack. She asserts during these discussions that she pleaded with her father to intervene earlier, but he ignored her plea. Whether it was her decision to lay low in post-White House life or stay away from her father, things seem to be going well for Ivanka. However, these relationships won’t be easy to rekindle in the coming years.
