The one thing that’s almost as important as the characters in any decent sitcom are the typical hangouts. Where do our protagonists meet to deal with what life has thrown at them? Usually this will involve a place that serves some food, coffee and alcohol, for obvious reasons, so they’ll end up sort of recapping the episode in their local bar of restaurant. The location becomes almost as immortal as the people in it.
But what if you wanted to visit some of these bars and restaurants? Well, in some cases, you can. Let’s have a looksie.
Twisters (Breaking Bad)
Los Pollos Hermanos isn’t a real thing, sadly, but the inside scenes were filmed entirely in Twisters in Albuquerque. Once people realized that this was the place where the Los Pollos Hermanos scenes were filmed, they actually saw a huge increase in revenue from all the tourists.
Tom’s Restaurant (Seinfeld)
While the characters will usually hang around in the Monk bar, this is actually Tom’s Restaurant in New York City. The exterior may not match the shots they used for the show, but the interior will put you right in the middle of a Seinfeld episode.
McGee’s (How I Met Your Mother)
It’s probably the most recognizable sitcom bar for everyone under the age of 40, and this bar has gone above and beyond to embrace the madness. They have drinks and dishes that reference the show and hold a trivia night every Tuesday where you can test your knowledge about the show.
Holsten’s (The Sopranos)
While the Sopranos is surely a far cry from a cheesy sitcom, Holsten’s ice cream parlor in New Jersey is an actual thing. You can sit there and bask in the nostalgia and Sopranos atmosphere. And the food isn’t too bad, either.
Pastis (Sex and the City)
Of all the restaurants and bars that we are introduced to in Sex and the City, this is sadly one of the few that managed to survive the harsh competition in New York. They’ll serve you amazing food 7 days a week and you’ll get to feel like Carrie Bradshaw as a free bonus.
Cheers Bar (Cheers)
While this bar in Boston was initially named The Bull & Finch Pub, the popularity of the Cheers sitcom left them no real choice but to rename the bar. That’s right – this is the actual bar from one of the most popular sitcoms of all time.
The Little Owl (Friends)
While the Friends cast usually sat in The Central Perk, which sadly isn’t a real bar, someone had the brilliant idea to start a bar on the ground floor of the building where Monica, Rachel, Chandler and Joey lived. The place is now a local hangout where you may or may not run into a few celebrities.
